Brownfield Program

Revitalizing neighborhoods impacted by past commercial and industrial activities

As Atlanta grows, it is important that we help create new opportunities for increased businesses, services, jobs and community improvements by addressing environmental issues. A brownfield is a property whose expansion, redevelopment, or reuse may be complicated by the presence or potential presence of a hazardous substance, pollutant, or contaminant. Examples include former gas stations, dry cleaners, rail yards, and other commercial and industrial sites. Atlantic Station, Historic Fourth Ward Park, and the BeltLine are examples of successful brownfield redevelopment projects in Atlanta.
